EVERGREEN GIRLS STATE
The Fred Hancock Auxiliary Unit #19 seeks applicants for Evergreen Girls State, an outstanding hands-on citizenship program for 11th grade girls, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Washington. This year the session will be held June 11-17 on the campus of Central Washington University in Ellensburg.
Evergreen Girls State was organized in 1947 and has for 70 years developed from a governmental seminar to an in-depth study of city, county and state government. Through this experience, it is the hope of the American Legion Auxiliary that each young woman grows into an active participating member of our society. Every summer in 49 states, thousands of enthusiastic young women meet to learn the mechanics of city, county and state government and to practice responsible citizenship.
From each session of Girls State, two outstanding young women are selected to represent their state at Girls Nation in Washington, D.C. These elected “Senators” will participate in a national government program.
Eleventh grade girls who meet the eligibility requirements, may contact their high school career counselors, American Legion Auxiliary Fred Hancock Unit #19, or access an application form directly from the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Washington Website: www.walegion-aux.org (programs – Girls State).
The Fred Hancock American Legion Auxiliary Unit #19 is proud to offer this opportunity through the generous support of the Central Puget Sound Carpenters Union Local 30, Fairwood Lions Club, Kiwanis and other Renton service organizations.
